While talk about flying the Pride flag was a hot topic last week organizers of the annual Pride Parade would like to see some more action be taken.
Kamloops Pride President, Kirstin McLaughlin says while it will be nice to see the Pride flag fly at this year’s parade it would also be nice to see the city add another rainbow crosswalk.
“I would absolutely love to see a Pride crosswalk in downtown. The vast majority of the municipalities that you look at that do have Pride crosswalks do have them in there downtown core. So areas where you have high volume of pedestrian traffic and lower volumes perhaps of vehicle traffic. We would absolutely love to see that in the future but we are certainly thrilled with what the Kamloops Airport has done as well as what has been done up at TRU with the number of crosswalks on campus.”
McLaughlin says this year’s parade route will be extended, with more events at Riverside Park. The parade takes place August 26th.
