As we inch closer to legalization the U.S – Canada border is a source of concern for one former Kamloops MLA who now works in the soon to be legal cannabis industry.
Terry Lake, A Vice President with the Hydropothecary Corporation, says people who work in the legal cannabis industry could potentially be barred from entering the States if they are asked where they work and answer honestly.
“You know we all struggle with this. It is the subject of constant debate. You hear MP’s including Bill Blair say well just tell the truth but if you end up on a list you are not getting into the States again whether it is for vacation or business, at least for quite a while.”
Even when cannabis is legalized in October in Canada and is legal in Washington State it will remain illegal at the border, which complies with federal U.S laws.
Lake says, the industry is nervous about crossing the border and is hoping some kind of a deal can be reached between Ottawa and Washington to alleviate the situation.
