Now that Kamloops has been selected as the location for the first government run pot shop, the liquor distribution branch has to apply to the City of Kamloops for their permit, and pay a yet to be determined fee.
At this point, the city hasn’t decided just what the business license fee will be.
But business license inspector David Jones says, many communities have been taking a wait and see approach.
“Business license fees are usually looked at to determine what is the impact of this specific business and whether or not that fee needs to be set to accommodate any extra work. what kind of money needs to be spent to look after that type of business. So we know in B.C that Vancouver has said that their business license fees are still going to be about $30,000.”
And he says, in most places, those fees will probably mirror each other.
