Kamloops RCMP have a new superintendent.
The new top cop for Kamloops made his first appearance before the media today
Superintendent Syd Lecky comes to Kamloops from Terrace where he spent five years with two of those in charge of the detachment.
He says the priorities of the detachment will not change under his leadership including in how it tackles organized crime although he acknowledges it won’t be easy.
“We have seen that with regards to the firearms issues that we have seen in the community. That is very visible. We will continue to work to disrupt and shut down any of these emerging or previously existing gangs that are trying to move into our areas.”
He says there will be difficulties.
“Oh it is a big issue and we know that is going to continue to grow. When I say continue to grow it hasn’t diminished we have seen it not just here but this has been provincially this is news everywhere.”
Lecky joined the RCMP in June of 1996 and was first posted to Kelowna for eight years.
