The B.C Wildfire Service was hopping yesterday as lightning sparked over 30 new fires.
Fire Information Officer Marla Catherall says the lions share of those new fire starts were in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
“Yesterday we had 20 new wildfires within the Kamloops Fire Centre. We are responding with all necessary resources. We have air tankers, helicopters, RAP attack personnel, which are firefighters that get deployed to areas that are hard to access, and ground crews.”
Catherall says concerns remain high today with the possibility of thunderstorms and associated lightning later today and into this evening.
She says they are just being briefed on the different fires to get a sense of the size and priority of each.
