The impending road re-construction through Kamloops downtown will have city crews working hard.
While there is a beautification aspect, Capital Projects Manager, Darren Crundwell says a majority of the roadwork planned for west Victoria Street is necessary to improve pipe conditions.
“Essentially it’s all the deep utilities, roads, water, sewer, storm, street lights, we’re going to underground the power. The lights you see out there now, they’re on BC Hydro poles, so they’re lease lights. We’ll actually change all the lighting and upgrade that. And try and change the corridor, and make it quite a bit safer, with separated sidewalks on both sides.”
He says the 13 million dollars in upgrades will not mean any traffic route changes.
Once the shovels hit the ground, the whole project is expected to take 2 years to complete.
