Small business in B.C is throwing down the gauntlet, three months in advance of the municipal elections this fall.
The Western Region Vice President of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business Richard Truscott has officially launched, The Stand Up For Local Business Campaign.
Truscott says candidates are being asked to endorse six platforms including, controlling municipal wages, fair property taxes, and limiting spending increase, which in some cases has risen by 400 per cent in many communities.
“Or else that means tax hikes down the road and of course small businesses have been paying more than their fair share of local property taxes for many many years now and in some cases they are paying two, three, or four times more based on the same assessed value than residents do.”
Truscott says, however, the CFIB will not be endorsing any specific candidates in the October 20th vote.
