About 30 First Nations want to buy a majority interest in the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
The Chief of the Whispering Pines Indian Band says, First Nations from British Columbia and Alberta have expressed an interest in purchasing 51 per cent of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion, which Mike Lebourdais says is likely 2.5 billion dollars.
“It gets us into the economy, right. Its a benefit of the economics, owning the pipe. More important it would be environment oversight.”
Lebourdais says, the goal is to expand the group to more than 50 bands.
“We would be looking to have all the first nations informed and expressing an interest by December, January, that kind of timeline so we can move forward with the federal government to show them our business model.”
Lebourdais says, he made a presentation to the Tk’emlúps band council and they expressed an interest.
