The Saudi Arabian students attending TRU in Kamloops are likely headed home, after the Middle Eastern country recalled thousands of students attending Canadian universities.
A spokesman for the university says there are 23 Saudi attending the summer semester and only 10 for the new school year, so there wont be a major financial hit.
The spokesman also says allowing the students to complete their studies on line through open learning is not an option because it would be considered the same as studying on campus.
The Chief Executive Officer of TRU World Global Operations Baihua Chadwick,
“From the student body’s perspective its a very small percentage of the international students. I think the impact will be on their future.”
The Saudi government took the action following a tweet last week from Global Affairs Canada that expressed concerns about the arrest of activists in the kingdom.
