What a difference a year makes for the B.C Wildfire Service.
Information Officer Ryan Turcott says, at this time last year there 614 thousand hectares of forests scorched by fire.
Today, that figure is less than 120 thousand.
Turcott says in 2017, there were fewer blazes but more land burnt.
“Certainly the fire situation in B.C continues to be quite active. As of today, there are 476 wildfires burning across B.C, and that includes 39 new wildfires that we responded to since yesterday.”
The Wildfire Service has responded over 1500 fires this season.
