The B.C NDP government has asked, and Ottawa has agreed to help in battling forest fires.
Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth calls the situation in B.C urgent and outlines what Ottawa will be contributing,
“200 personnel that are self contained so in other words, be able to stay in the fire areas in the bush for quite sometime. Second thing we have requested is additional heavy lifting aircraft. Being able to move heavy equipment around to areas where its needed. Third to ensure we have available aircraft that are able to evacuate people from remote communities.”
Just under 200 new wildfires were sparked over the weekend, with most recorded Saturday as lightning storms .
A total of 592 fires are burning in B.C.
