A day after a contentious Council meeting where Interior Health officials were put on the hot seat the mayor is keeping the temperature cranked up.
Ken Christian says he was taken aback by some of the comments from Chief Medical Health Officer Dr Trevor Corneil, especially around discarded needles.
“Some of it was disappointing. I was personally disappointed they didn’t know how many needles they actually give out. They didn’t know where they are giving them out. They had no idea how many they get back. Then they revert to this one-per cent number, which I think is really folly.”
Christian says there is no question drug needles littered around the city is a problem and perhaps local perspective is missing.
“We need a medical health officer resident in Kamloops to experience the kinds of situations that we have here rather than someone coming from Kelowna once every two years.”
He says a more effective strategy is needed to tackle the overdose crisis.
