Royal Inland Hospital waiting on long term solutions to deal with swamped operating rooms.
Chief of Staff at RIH, Dr. Todd Ring says the operating rooms in Kamloops are under a lot of pressure lately.
“And there’s a lot of work that we’re doing within Royal Inland Hospital, and Interior Health to really look at what we need for resourcing for our operating rooms. And certainly as we look forward to the patient care tower expansion, that is a key piece of work that we are working on.”
He says when they get backed up, its usually due to emergency operation cases that get added on, meaning, they have to take a hard look at which surgeries they can shuffle around.
Dr. Ring adds, transferring patients elsewhere would be more of a last resort decision.
