The fire situation has cooled down a bit in B.C over the last 24 hours.
Provincial Information Officer Ryan Turcott with the latest numbers.
“Since yesterday we have responded to 22 new wildfires again a lot of that just being driven by lightning so day over day we are seeing less new fire starts than we have been but certainly we are still seeing some new starts each day so currently across the province there are just over 556 wildfires burning.”
The massive Shovel Lake wildfire northeast of Burns Lake is now estimated to have scorched 683-square kilometres of bush but the B.C Wildfire Service says it didn’t grow significantly yesterday.
The fire is the largest of the nearly 600 wildfires currently burning in B.C.
