Just how bad was the air quality in Kamloops, a TRU student was astounded to find out in a very simple way.
“My lungs hurt that’s really what it came down to.”
Shawna McKenzie attached a HEPA filter to a box fan to cut down on the smoke inside her house and exacerbating the situation her child has asthma.
“Its not white anymore. The round part that is attached to the fan looks like a used furnace filter. You know you are suppose to change furnace filters like every three months. This looks used. It terrifies me to think that would have been in my family’s lung’s otherwise.”
TRU Professor Michael Mehta surprised.
“It tells us there is a lot of air pollution that’s not only outside but in your house.”
Mehta says the B.C government has to do more to protect its citizens from the impact of fire smoke.
