The weather over the long weekend was a boost for the B.C Wildfire Service.
Provincial Information Officer Ryan Turcott says the 15 new fires over the weekend were all less than four hectares.
“We are starting to see a downturn in activity. Not to downplay the current fire situation, there are still currently 490 active wildfires across the province, but if you to compare now to where we were at two weeks ago we are seeing a positive shift weather trends.”
A record, 1.3 million hectares have been scorched with a cost of 400 million dollars, compared to 472 million during the same period last year.
