The dispute between local 7619 of the United Steelworkers and Highland Valley Copper appears to have been resolved.
Both sides had to call in some high powered help in the form of Mediator Vince Reddy to resolve several issues that were not settled including pensions after last years contract agreement.
Union President Kyle Wolfe says the company will pay the disputed pension amounts and 500 thousand dollars to resolve more than 50 grievances.
“We had a significant amount of issues that had been unresolved coming to the end of a bargaining. There are a lot of things the company had agreed they were going to do that they weren’t. A lot of grievances around contracting out that were not being dealt with. We finally had to put our foot down and ask for the appointment of a special officer.”
A special committee has also been set up with union and management representatives to work on contracting out problems and developing a better relationship.
