A new skateboard park in Rayleigh officially opens this weekend.
Parks and Civic Facilities Manager Jeff Putman says the facility is the size of two tennis courts.
He says its people powered.
“The two brothers, Owen and Merek De Witte that live in Rayleigh, approached the city three years ago with the idea for a skate park and then they did all the heavy lifting. They went door to door to petition the neighbourhood.”
Putnam says the park is essential for the Kamloops suburb.
“Rae-Mor Park is quite a nice park, but there were not many amenities for teenagers. So this solves that problem.”
He adds, the price of the skateboard park is 250 thousand dollars.
