The cooler, wetter September weather has eased some of the firefighting workload for the B.C Wildfire Service.
Fire Information Officer Ryan Turcot says as of today, there are currently 449 active fires, including 28 fires of note, however, they are seeing a downward trend.
“We are 10 days into September now, and with the recent rainfall, and return to seasonal temperatures that we have seen, that has actually allowed us to contain many of our smaller to mid sized fires, and then even some of the larger fires that we’re responding to are not as likely to show significant growth moving forward, and we’re starting to make better progress on containing them.”
Turcot says since April 1st, the B.C Wildfire Service has responded to 2,060 fires, scorching over 1.3 million hectares.
