If you get a call from Kamloops RCMP about a warrant for your arrest…rest easy. It’s fake.
Corporal Jodi Shelkie says the latest scam making the rounds involves scammers calling victims, saying they’re Kamloops RCMP on the call display, and telling the victim to pay for some alleged fines or warrants.
“So, we just want to make people aware that if they receive a phone call, and it says Kamloops RCMP and the phone number, and the person is stating that they have a warrant out for their arrest…We don’t call people to inform them that they have a warrant out for their arrest, and you can’t get out of a warrant by paying money, cash, or Bitcoin.”
Shelkie says they recommend hanging up, and reporting the call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
