With forecasts for snow to fall on high elevations of the Coquihalla this weekend the contractor responsible, VSA Highways Maintenance, is asking drivers to be responsible.
VSA spokesperson Bob Gilowski says winter ready trucks are ready to respond if needed.
“We will be watching the weather forecast closely over the next 24 to 36 hours. If there is any kind of a threat that there could be snowfall over the higher elevations, we will be sending out patrols just to monitor those areas and then respond accordingly.”
Gilowski, who has been on the job for years, was asked if there was any commonality in all the winter highway crashes he has seen.
“Typically it is the speed of the commercial vehicles but that doesn’t exclude light passenger vehicles either.”
He advises drivers to check the weather forecast and Drive B.C before they go.
The snow is forecast to fall Saturday night and through Sunday.
