Former Liberal Cabinet Minister George Abbott says much remains to be done to help deal with the fire situation in B.C after another year of record hectares being scorched.
Abbott co-authored a report with 108 recommendations on the floods and fires from 2017.
“There is however a lot more to be done.”
Abbott says there needs to be a lot more attention paid to fire proofing communities.
“At this point we need to get a handle on where to spend whatever mitigation dollars we have. There is not a comprehensive plan about which communities are most at risk and why and without that kind of planning its very difficult to prioritize where the mitigation dollars should be spent.”
Abbott says the government has implemented or has taken action on more than 50 of the suggestions.
