With marijuana legalization coming up October 17th, and Kamloops set to have the only B.C Government store up and running, now the question is where people are actually allowed to smoke their cannabis.
Business License Inspector and Property Use Coordinator David Jones says with the city and provincial regulations, smoking cannabis would be allowed in the same areas as where cigarettes can be smoked.
“However, obviously we know that the province has some additional regulations compared to the City of Kamloops zoning and bylaws. So we wouldn’t expect people to be going into parks and other public places where children will go, so that kind of goes under the smoking and clean air bylaw with the City of Kamloops.”
Jones says there’s a lot of public education that needs to be undertaken.
“You know, we already know that through the legislation, you’re not allowed to consume in a vehicle. So how do you store that in a vehicle, how do you get it home?”
He says at this time, to have your pot within the comfort of your own home is a safe bet.
