Not just waste disposal at City of Kamloops facilities looking to get an eco-upgrade.
“We are currently looking at sustainable events, and sustainable event programming.”
Sustainability Services Supervisor Glen Cheetham says on top of the city’s latest zero waste initiative undertaken at the Sandman Centre, they’ve been experimenting with more specific recycling bins provided at events such as Ribfest and Canada Day.
“So we’re trying to find a way of helping to integrate a more advanced waste management, and probably more important, waste reduction. So it’s always important first to try and think of, well how can we reduce the waste that any given event might produce, and of course the second, and important priority is how do you manage that waste.”
This past Friday, the city kicked off the Zero Waste recycling program with the Blazers at the Sandman Centre.
