B.C Transit insists Closed Circuit Cameras on its Kamloops bus fleet have proven effective in deterring violence and protecting drivers.
The crown agency says in 2017 there were 107 investigations launched in the River City.
Spokesman Jonathon Dyck says, so far this year there have been 112 cases.
“There have been three reported assaults to B.C Transit members of staff so I don’t have outcomes of those. So in 2017 we have seven reported assaults to B.C Transit members of staff. What CCTV cameras does is provide us with another tool to be able to follow up when that unfortunately occurs.”
Dyck says there have been 24 requests from the RCMP and ICBC for access to the footage.
