It’s the impact of the rising home affordability problem in Kamloops.
According to City Hall, residents in Kamloops are spending big bucks on additions instead of buying new, 2.7 million during the first nine months of last year compared to 4.2 million dollars in 2018.
Doug Wittal of D.W. Builders is not surprised suggesting the cost of a typical addition could run as high as 200 thousand dollars.
“There is a shortage of just overall building lots coming on stream and more and more people are deciding to enjoy where they live and they are just short of few amenities in their house whether it be a larger kitchen or master bedroom,” said Wittal.
“People are just adding on. Makes a lot of sense.”
Wittal says the cost of building is ridiculous.
