A Kamloops Lawyer has serious questions about what police will eventually be using to detect drug impaired drivers now that marijuana has been legalized.
Shawn Buckley, who has launched several constitutional challenges of cannabis laws, says the use of the Draeger Drug Test 5000 is going to cause what he says are plenty of hiccups.
“When you say little confidence. Am I confident that it can detect whether or not you have THC in your system. I have no reason to doubt that it can. But am I confident that it will be a helpful screening tool you know to weed out drivers impaired by cannabis, no.”
Buckley expects the device to be in the center of several court challenges.
The Trudeau government mandated the use of the device to check for drugged drivers but a number of police departments have decided to give it a pass due to a number of concerns.
