The latest statistics show the number of residential units being built in Kamloops continues to grow.
Canada Mortgage and Housing reports a total of just under 1,500 homes including multi family and single family homes under construction in Kamloops.
Spokesman Len Catling says that’s up 30 per cent from June of this year.
“Generally, it’s driven by the apartment starts which is at 1,079 of the 1,475 currently under construction, and those are actually swinging about half intended for rental and half intended for homeowners, he said.
“So you are seeing both elevated levels in purpose built rental units as well as condominiums.”
Catling says there have been strong numbers this year.
“If [builders and developers] sense a demand, they’ll keep building,” he added.
Year to date, Catling says there’s been 916 housing starts in Kamloops, compared to 333 the same time last year.
