The Interior Health Authority (IH) is making good progress on filling vacant doctor positions, especially in Kamloops.
Executive Medical Director for Physician Engagement Dr. Harsh Hundal says there are more than 100 physician vacancies.
However, since April 1st, IH has 55 signed offer letters in hand, for 24 rural general practitioners and 31 specialists to provide services including at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
“You know which is really tremendous if you think about it,” Hundal said. “11 of them are actually in Kamloops or on their way to Kamloops to R-I-H.”
Dr. Hundal says the more difficult specialties to recruit and anesthesiologists and psychiatrists.
