Two significant B-C Housing projects in Kamloops will be opening this month.
By mid-November, a 40-space temporary shelter will be open on Royal Avenue, and a 55-unit supportive housing complex will also open on Mission Flats Road.
Regional director Ann Howard says the 40-unit shelter on Royal Ave. in particular is unique.
“It is a part of the winter response for the province but is unique to Kamloops in the way we’re delivering the service.
Howard says people have already been selected to stay at the temporary shelter on Royal Avenue and that they’ll be moved to the Mission Flats units when it’s ready.
She noted they’ve also added 13 additional spaces at Emerald Centre.
The opening dates are a couple weeks behind schedule, and Howard is grateful that there hasn’t yet been any sharp winter weather in the city.
