The mayor of Sun Peaks says there is a “long list” of priorities for him and the new council.
Al Raine says one of the major priorities will be getting work started for the $8-million-dollar Sun Peaks Centre.
“We had achieved some funding, about $6 million,” Raine said. “We have also put a couple million dollars aside on the municipal side, so now we’re working on the design.”
“Hopefully, we can bring the project in under budget.”
That $6 million funding is from federal grant funding.
Raine says other priorities are improving utilities and wastewater treatment, as well as putting in traffic calming measures.
“We have to make sure that if we have expansion on development, we have the water wastewater and gas and propane and all services that new development needs,” added Raine.
“So we’re rushing along trying to keep ahead of that demand.”
The new council will be sworn in tonight.
