After being sworn in last night the new look Kamloops Council will have a pretty large to do list to immediately tackle.
Returning Councillor Dieter Dudy says among the biggest challenges will be crafting a new budget, a process he says will be much more difficult than last year.
“That could well be because we also have the RCMP contract that is coming through and that could see as much as $2.5 million added to our budget,” he said. “That is a 2.5% increase there.”
“We have got negotiations going on with the firefighters. We probably have a CUPE contract that we need to face. Those are all things that we have to try and bring into the budget without obviously putting too much of a burden on the individual taxpayer.”
Dudy says the other big issue for this council will be bio-solids with a contentious argument over how to deal with the thousands of tonnes produced each year.
He says some will want to use for agricultural purposes while others want the city to go down the costly road of incinerating it in order to produce energy.
