The new Kamloops council had a brief agenda on Tuesday as members had their first civic meeting together.
The opening council meeting lasted only about an hour, but mayor Ken Christian points out it was part of a busy day-one of council orientations, which will last several weeks.
“We are going to tour this city from up to down and make sure that all of council, including the incumbents that are returning as well as the new councillors, are familiar with civic operations.”
One of the four new councillors Sadie Hunter says the 2019 budget process will likely be the most consuming item in the immediate future.
“My focus for the next six to eight weeks really, until the new year, is going to getting a good handle on the process and focusing on information related to the budget.”
A preliminary budget is expected to be brought to council in two weeks.
