Members of the United Steelworkers in the Kamloops area could be on the picket line later this week at some sawmill operations.
The union and Interior Forest Labour Relations broke off talks under the mediator in attempts to reach a contract for more than 3,000 workers.
Union Wood Chair Bob Matters says the negotiations were going nowhere.
“We weren’t dealing with money as we would normally do at the end of bargaining,” Matters said. “So, it’s fair to say that obviously there is no agreement on money.”
“But its also fair to say that the employer’s last offer was from what we would expect to see in a final settlement.”
The workers voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action to back contract demands.
Their last contract expired July 1st.
