The new Kamloops Council will get its first look at the 2019 provisional budget today, facing cost pressures.
Under the five year plan, the next year’s proposed property tax hike would be 2.7 per cent.
Finance Director Kathy Humphrey did say the cost of the RCMP is rising around $800,000.
“The cost of the officers and all the associated costs of having officers so equipment policing offices all of that sort of stuff,” she said.
On the positive side, Humphrey reports that lost revenue from the nearly five-month strike at Cascades Casino will not hit $800,000.
“It’s about a $200,000 drop in casino revenue compared to what we budgeted last year,” she added. “We still have three months to go. So it hasn’t had a significant impact on us.”
Numbers won’t be finalized until early next year.
