The price to fix up the Canada Games Pool is likely to go up considerably, possibly to about $9 million.
The original price tag for the replacement of the old roof and envelope was around $3 million.
However, the city’s capital projects manager Darren Crundwell says the HVAC system must also be replaced, and if not it will eventually fail and require an even costlier price tag.
“Is the number bigger than the original $3.1 (million)? Yes, depending on what council decides,”Crundwell says.
“We are recommending there is more efficient ways to deal with the existing facility that is at the end of its life. We have got an opportunity here to make some really good improvements to the way to the space is used. I mean it’s 30 years old.”
Crundwell says the project is also being delayed due to the Senior Games, which means construction won’t start until September of 2020.
