The city of Kamloops has broken a record for construction activity this year, with $262-million dollars in permits issued.
It’s the second straight year where they’ve set a new record, and there’s still a month still to go in 2018.
Building and Engineering Development Manager Jason Dixon says November was a very busy month with about $52-million worth of permits.
“The nursing building at TRU, that alone is $27.5-million dollars,” said Dixon. “So that’s half the month in one project which often happens.”
“But we also had a project out in Dallas Drive worth $5.9-million and another apartment on Spirit Square on the North Shore also added $6-million dollars.”
And as for how far Kamloops can push the record, Dixon says there’s still a few big projects to go.
“They may get out the door in December, we’ll obviously have some construction value there but it’s hard to say how much or what,” he added. “I don’t think we’ll be flirting with $300-million but we should definitely push further than we have now.”
The record last year was about $224-million dollars worth of permits.
