The new president of TRU says the school has gone to “considerable lengths” to make programs available at Williams Lake.
As the TRU Faculty Association says the Cariboo campus is in a staffing crisis, one of Brett Fairbairn’s first orders of business was to visit those school grounds.
Fairbairn indicated that expanding teaching positions there isn’t in the current plans.
“I think the case has to be made with respect to the importance of our mandate and our mission, and really the public’s appreciation of that mandate and that mission,” Fairbairn says.
“My impression so far is that TRU has gone to considerable lengths to offer programs in Williams Lake, even when the cost per student is significantly higher than the cost of offering programs in Kamloops.”
The TRUFA president Tom Friedman says he’s worried about the future of the Cariboo campus, as only 11 out of 45 profs in Williams Lake are regular full-time employees.
