Two more private cannabis stores are planning to open up in Kamloops.
The new proposed stores are located at 630 Victoria Street and at 205B Tranquille Road. They’re expected to called “Eden Cannabis” and “Blossoming Buds,” respectively.
The city’s property use coordinator Dave Jones says the applications for both are expected to hit council’s desk on Dec. 18.
“In most cases if we’re taking a report to council, we don’t see a problem with it. So it’s just a matter of us going through that process, so at this point in time all the proximity, between locations and zoning, is correct.”
It can take private cannabis stores three to four months to get licensing from the province after being approved by local governments, according to Jones.
Kamloops has already approved five pot shops – three government-run stores and two private stores – but to date only one government store has opened, in the Columbia Place Shopping Center.
Jones expects more pot shop applications are on the horizon as well.
“There is some prime locations still out there. Those interested have made it quite clear that their application is in with the province, and it’s a matter of when that application is received from the province,” he says. “So yes, I would expect another six by the middle of 2019 or even more.”
