The Opposition House Leader is not holding her breath that a promised meeting next month of the Legislative Assembly Management Committee will shed anymore light on the controversy gripping the legislature.
Mary Polak says there are so many unanswered questions, from the mysterious RCMP investigation to the process which led from the Speaker’s probe to the suspension of two senior legislative staffers.
And while Darryl Plecas has promised to reveal what he can in a LAMC meeting in January, “I am not sure what to expect,” Polak says.
“I really do hope that we get some clarity. This is not about the criminal investigation itself. We keep being provided with these shadowy tales of what may or may not have gone on with respect to the Speaker’s own investigation. Then when the veil is lifted it is very quickly put back. So that is where the concern lies.”
Polak says someone advised the Speaker to have the police publicly escort Craig James and Gary Lenz of the Legislature grounds potentially exposing the province to future legal action.
