The first significant snowfall at the valley bottom is expected to hit Kamloops beginning tonight.
Environment Canada is calling for about 2 centimetres of snow beginning late this evening.
Forecaster Bobby Sehkon says another 2-to-4 centimetres will fall during the day tomorrow, and a further 2-to-4 centimetres overnight Tuesday.
But he says mild weather will mean that rain will be mixed in tomorrow.
“There’s this volatility in the weather in terms of temperatures being so close to zero that we could get both snow and rain,” Sekhon said.
He says people should be aware of changing road conditions at different elevations, including upper areas of the city and mountain highways.
“Even though this will be more snow than we’ve been seeing lately in the Thompson area, don’t expect large accumulations to be on the road for example,” added Sekhon.
Temperatures at the Kamloops Airport are expected to be very mild in the coming days, reaching as high as 7 degrees.
