A 51-year-old Sicamous man was killed in a snowmobile accident yesterday.
Police say the man had been guiding a group of five other snowmobilers in the Queest Mountain Forest Service Road area, north of Sicamous, when his snowmobile accidentally rolled into a creek bed and pinned him underneath.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says CPR was administered by the group, however, they were unable to revive the man.
The Shuswap Search and Rescue Team (SSAR) were able to get the other snowmobilers out of the area.
They were unable to get to the victim due to the terrain, the amount of light and the weather condition at the time. They’ll try again today.
Moskaluk says the victim was an experienced rider, and while these incidents aren’t entirely preventable, he reminded backcountry users to use caution.
“We do ask that everyone go out into these areas with the proper equipment, practicing different techniques with their emergency gear,” said Moskaluk.
Police are offering support to the victim’s next of kin.
No further information is expected at this time from the RCMP or the BC Coroners Service.
