The Kamloops RCMP are a happy bunch today but not because Christmas is less than two weeks away.
Corporal Jodi Shelkie says the Lock-Out Auto Crime initiative has seen a huge improvement, as drivers are locking their vehicles.
Of the hundreds of vehicles that were looked at by volunteers and auxiliary officers on December 7, only one was found unlocked.
However, valuables were easily spotted in 59 of the vehicles.
“They were locked but there were items inside like wallets, purses, computers, and other electronics,” said Shelkie. “So, we just want to remind people that it’s really important to not only lock your vehicle but to take all your valuable items out of the vehicle.”
Shelkie notes the number of thefts from vehicles has remained the same. However, the number of thefts where the vehicle’s window was broken has increased substantially.
