The City of Kamloops is working towards reducing the risk of fires.
Council has agreed to submit an application to the B.C. government’s Community Resiliency Investment for $265,000, and to add $100,000 from city coffers to reduce forest fuels in the interface around the city.
Natural resources crew leader Kirsten Wourms says the money would be used to remove dead wood on city property.
“It looks like there is another pot of money for lands that are on crown lands. So we are applying for another $165,000 dollars to work in crown land within the city boundaries.
Councillor Dieder Dudy called it a good strategic move.
“This has probably been one of the single biggest concerns I have had in recent years and the fact that fuel mitigation issues still existed to a great extent here and I am so happy to see that we are doing what we are doing with public land.”
Dudy says every dollar spent reduces the chances of a fire.
