The CP Holiday Train rolls into Kamloops this coming Sunday, December 16, at 4:30 PM
Amid the lights and the spectacle, it’s also a fundraiser for the Kamloops Food Bank.
Executive Director Bernadette Siracky says we could get a record turnout with the weather looking mild.
“We’ll have hot dogs and hamburgers made by the Valleyview Lions, we have hot chocolate donated by Van Houtte,” she said. “Come on down with a bag of food.”
“Dave Demarchi and his team at SunLife have been collecting the food at our truck for ten years. We typically fill our trucks. People make donations for the hot dogs and the hamburgers and it goes to the food bank.”
If you’ve never seen the CP Holiday Train, Siracky adds there’s nothing quite it.
“I love standing as close as I can when that train stops and the boxcar opens with the bands on it,” she noted. “It’s really is something to see. All the smoke comes out and the bands start singing.”
“They’re bringing attention to something that is truly important and that is the vulnerable [people] in our community. Before we can figure out poverty in this lifetime and solve it, unfortunately, we need to be there, fortunately, we operate in this city.”
Performing that day at the Sandman Centre between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM are the Sam Roberts Band, Tracey Prescott and Sierra Noble.
The train also stops in Chase, Savona, and Ashcroft that day.
