It’s been a mild and unseasonable December so far in Kamloops, with temperatures into the double digits at times.
But despite that, there is still some hope for a white Christmas in the valley.
Environment Canada Forecaster Matt MacDonald says it’ll depend on how the days before Christmas are.
“Right around the solstice, the first day of winter, we are seeing a cooling trend, so I think there is still a hope for a white Christmas,” he said. “Climatologically usually it’s about a 60 to 70 per cent chance.”
“I think there’s a fair chance, not all hope is lost. We might see some snow in those days leading up to Christmas.”
He adds it’s going to be pretty mild in Kamloops for the next week and a half. Today high is 9 degrees, which is expected to carry on into tomorrow and Wednesday as well.
“Right now we’re in this really mild air mass and that’s going to stay with us until the end of the week, and then at that point, we return to kind of near seasonal temperatures,” added MacDonald.
“So not an arctic outbreak, with any frigid conditions but just highs below the freezing mark and lows around -8 or -9.”
