Kamloops SPCA has a timeline for when its new $6.5-million-dollar headquarters will be opening.
Branch Manager Charlene Holloway says the new building near the Kamloops Airport will be open in the spring of 2019.
Holloway says the 10,500-square-foot building will be the largest SPCA centre in B.C. once complete.
“We are the second the largest in the province as far as animal intake and flow-through. So it’s definitely needed for this area,” Holloway says.
“It includes our spay and neuter clinic, so the spay and neuter clinic will be moving from Tranquille out to the property as well, so we will be all on the same property in one area. So that will be great for the community to be able to utilize the service out there. And also be able to come in and visit us for their needs as well.”
The province provided $1.5 million dollars for the new building, and the SPCA is fundraising the remaining $5 million.
The SPCA is still fundraising the final $370,000 for the new headquarters. Anyone looking to contribute to the new facility can donate here.
In front of Kamloops city council on Tuesday, Holloway also says the branch has received a $50,000 grant, which will be used to spay and neuter 400 cats in the North Shore and Brock areas next year.
