Kamloops Council will meet today for the last time before Christmas with a series of intriguing issues on the agenda.
Among them is whether or not to approve two private cannabis store applications, one on Victoria Street the other on Tranquille, Councillor Kathy Sinclair doesn’t see any roadblocks to council approval.
“Our attitude at Council so far with legal cannabis stores has been to green-light what we can there. It will really be up to the free market to decide in the end how many cannabis stores we have in town.”
Sinclair also does not have any enforcement concerns with legal cannabis stores downtown and on Tranquille.
“I haven’t seen any huge problems so far. It is definitely something we are keeping an eye on and I know our RCMP detachment is as well.”
The idea of an outdoor rink is Riverside Park has popped up again, catching Sinclair off guard.
“So I am a bit surprised to see it on the agenda to be honest.”
Sinclair suspects it is on the agenda because some grant money is at play and the window to apply closes soon.
As for whether she supports the idea or not.
“I am not sure I want to look at it as a one off though without seeing what other supplemental budget items might be coming up this year.”
Also former Councillor Donovan Cavers making his presence felt with a motion on year round transit.
And while Sinclair is not opposed to the idea but she says “I don’t think this is the right time.”
Sinclair says it is worth a look but she would like BC Transit to be at the table with the city first, especially on sharing funding with the city for any year round services.
