Kamloops Broncos president Dino Bernardo has resigned after 12 years on the job.
Bernardo says his resignation is for personal reasons.
He adds that with a new general manager, Guiseppe Liberatore who was hired last month, and a new coaching staff set to take over the team, now is a good time to have the team go in an entirely new direction.
“Time for me to move on and do other things with my life. It’s been 12 years which is a quarter of my life,” Bernardo says.
“I loved every minute of it, I loved all the kids and all the players who have come through here. I’ve got some stuff going on in my life and I think now is a time for me to step back and not be a part of the organization anymore.”
The Broncos went 0-10 this year and are 4-26 over the past three seasons.
Bernardo acknowledged this season was a trying time, but says he’s proud with how his club battled this season and says his enthusiasm has never dropped.
“The kids are what kept me coming back every year. I built a lot of strong relationships with them, and I’m sure I’ll have those relationships for years to come,” Bernardo says. “And it’s not just the kids, I’ve met a lot of great people from all over Western Canada. I’m proud to have been a part of this organization for as long as I was.”
Board member Darren Watt will be the team’s acting president until a new president is named, which will likely be in February.
