Angus Reid is out with its latest peek at Premiers and their approval ratings across the country and here in B.C. John Horgan has taken a tumble.
Angus Reid Executive Director Shachi Kurl says back in the spring Premier John Horgan had a rosy 52-percent approval rating, which has now slid down to 43-percent in the latest snapshot.
Kurl says Horgan was hurt by his government’s opposition to the Trans Mountain pipeline and the associated natural resources squabble with Alberta as well as the electoral reform referendum.
“I think there has been a lot of expressed confusion. A lot of expressed dissatisfaction with that process. It is something I would remind British Columbians that they would have been dealing with regardless of who had won the last election, because you will recall, the BC Liberals promised to call this referendum as well.”
How does John Horgan’s approval ratings compare to former Premier Christy Clark?
“His predecessor was a fairly polarizing individual. Her numbers would hover around the 30% mark for much of her Premiership. There may be some comfort in know that hey I am doing better than the person who was in the job before me. But you have always got to be mindful of the person who is coming after you for that job. On that front actually I think John Horgan is actually sitting in decent shape.”
Kurl says Quebec Premier François Legault has knocked Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe out of the top spot with a 59-percent approval rating.
